Coconut Oil Teeth Whitening

Did you know that coconut oil can make your teeth whiter? I sure didn’t! This oil offers natural benefits that won’t harm your teeth. It also helps remove plaque and improve gum health, which in return will make your enamel appear whiter? Say wha?!

I gotcha. Here’s how to use it; you can add coconut oil to you floss for one. Put a dab of oil between your pointer finger and thumb, or actually any finger you are most comfortable with, then smooth this over a few inches of the thread before you floss. Floss can reach areas that whitening strips can’t reach. I will forewarn you; it gets messy. Try getting a grip on a greased up piece of dental floss, let alone maneuver it between your teeth…

The more obvious will be to use coconut oil while your brushing your teeth. I dipped my toothbrush in the coconut oil first an then the baking soda. Then just brushed and rinsed like I normally would. I will honestly say; I am not a fan. I am sure it will have the promised results after a few weeks but it just doesn’t feel right. I couldn’t wait to brush my teeth with some good old toothpaste when I was done.

The third option shows a little more potential….this one requires a little time but is very effective. As soon as you wake up in the morning take a tablespoon of coconut oil and swish it around your mouth for 15 minutes. It is the weirdest process because your mouth instantly thinks is food and prepares to swallow it. Yuck! Double yuck because you have to swish it around because it mixes in with your saliva which makes it easier to do so after a few minutes. Double yuck right? All for the sake of research!

I know 15 minutes may seem long but it will be worth it over time. Do it while you are checking your morning e-mails, text messages, social media or while you are on the porcelain throne. It’s a great detox for your teeth and will improve overall health for your teeth and gums.
