Summer Skin

Memorial Day is supposedly the kick off of summer, even though the heat spontaneously kicked in in Jersey this past weekend….BUT that will not bring us down! It’s summer!

There are a few things of which I thought were bad for your skin in the summer months that are actually advisable to do. Exfoliate, for starters. I believed this would scrub my summer glow right off of me. But summer is the season to scrub away. Use a gentle scrub once a week. I love St.Ives Oatmeal scrub Love for St.Ives but have also become obsessed with Tree Hut Watermelon Shea Sugar Scrub. It smells so amazing!

Another advice is to not shower as long during the summer months. You may tend to take more showers during the summer because of the stickiness but make sure you take quick rinses with luke warm water. I am that crazy person who enjoys cold showers on a hot day. Hot showers will dry out your skin even more which can lead to redness and irritation.

Vitamin C is recommended, something I thought would be a bit harsh for your skin in the summer sun. Come to find out, it actually protects against sun damage. It also reduces inflammation and hyperpigmentation. I use a vitamin C serum underneath my moisturizer after I wash my face. I will continue to lather up during the summer months.

Speaking of lathering up. The next tips are the obvious ones; lotion, moisturizer, sunscreen! Did I mention lotion?!? I go through bottles of lotion with Hyaluronic Acid in an attempt to save my skin. I have also become diligent with my sunscreen. As much as I love a good tan, it is just not healthy plus when overdone, not appealing either.

Last but not least and also just as obvious; drink at least 8 glasses of water a day! Water….not sure if any other liquids count on hot summer days. In that case; switch your Mojito’s up with water. One drink, one water…repeat…

Happy Summer!!!
