WTH is Squalane?

Two years ago I had never heard of hyuloronic acid and would probably have stayed away from it, had I not researched it. Funny how ingredients in beauty products update as often as my IPhone does. Currently the hot commodity is Squalane…exactly;WTH?
I am referring to “Squalane”. There’s something else out there called “Squalene”. The latter is harvested from shark liver and is known to clog pores. Although answers on that vary. Now Squalane on the other hand is derived from vegetable sources and will not clog your pores. It’s tricky because even a Squalane search will give you a Squalene answer….no one said this was going to be easy!

I have tried The Ordinary Squalane cleanser containing Squalane. Check it out in The Ordinary Regimen for Aging Skin it feels weightless on your skin. The Ordinary also sells straight up Squalane. 100% plant derived Squalane for a mere 8 bucks. Paula’s Choice and Biossance also have products containing Squalane. It does penetrate pores and improves skin at cellular level but does not feel heavy at all.
The difference between Squalane and Hyaluronic Acid is that the latter increases your skin’s water content as where the first locks it in. So you know what to do; follow up with Squalane after you have indulged your skin in Hyaluronic Acid.

Squalane can brighten dull skin as well as reduce fine lines, even scars. It also has inflammatory properties that can reduce redness and swelling. All sounds too good to be true right? I am on the hunt for a body lotion that contains Squalane.
I also have added Biossance Squalane Vitamin C and Rose Oil to my nighttime routine. Sometimes I use it with my claw thingy Face Blaster by Ashley Black My goal is to do this biweekly. Right now it’s more bimonthly. It will once again be in my New Years resolutions: to stick to my goals!
